Princess Line Beaded Dress

This project focused on constructing a princess-line dress while strengthening my sewing and patternmaking skills. My design goal was to create an A-line silhouette suitable for both everyday and formal wear, featuring bubble sleeves and a rounded hem for added volume and interest. To introduce contrast, I combined matte linen for the main body with pink satin at the hem, using its reflective qualities to emphasize movement and layering.

PROCESS DEVELOPMENT

Completing this dress required a lot of pattern adjustments, clean-finishing techniques, and problem-solving around pleats and fabric behavior. These challenges refined my technical accuracy and improved my understanding of construction methods. For embellishment, I used layered organza embroidery—an approach chosen over dyeing to avoid linen shrinkage—allowing for subtle gradients that complemented the garment’s form. Overall, this project strengthened my foundational sewing skills and equipped me with new techniques that will support future work.
